ScottMadden, Inc., one of North America’s leading energy consulting firms, recently presented at the Platts 14th Annual Utility Supply Chain Management Conference, reviewing power market trends and improving nuclear parts availability.
Cristin Lyons, partner and grid transformation practice leader at ScottMadden, provided a recap of the power market outlook in her session, “Grid Transformation and the Impact of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs).” Here, Ms. Lyons shared the changes, impacts to utilities, the continuum of regulatory responses, and what it means for the supply chain.
“As DERs continue to proliferate, utilities are piloting the integration of many different resources and partnering with new entities,” said Ms. Lyons. “These activities have important implications for the manner in which the supply chain procures products and services and the types of contracting relationships that will be needed.”
Additionally, Marc Miller, partner at ScottMadden, joined Ontario Power Generation (OPG) to share its breakthrough approach for improving parts availability across one of the largest nuclear fleets in North America. Poor nuclear parts availability was hampering OPG’s ability to consistently schedule and execute its work, increasing backlogs and lead times, while reducing equipment reliability, and eventually, capacity factors. “OPG partnered with ScottMadden to design and implement an integrated solution that is reducing churn in work management and improving both parts availability and equipment reliability,” said Mr. Miller.
