ScottMadden Partners with Quintiq and Utility Dive to Provide a Blueprint for Workforce Management Solutions

July 25, 2016

“On the Utilities Horizon – Strategies and Tools for Workforce Management: A Blueprint for Solutions”

ScottMadden, Inc., one of North America’s leading energy consulting firms, has released a new article focused on strategies and tools for workforce management. The article, developed in partnership with workforce management solution Quintiq, helps utilities to better understand how they can think more strategically about the scheduling of their workforce across all planning horizons (long-term, short-term, and day-of operations).

“Companies continue to be challenged to manage workload to comply with complex pay and overtime rules. They must also ensure that employees are trained and qualified to perform various technical tasks they may be asked to complete,” said Doug Utley, former partner at ScottMadden. “Moreover, the ability to manage workload can avoid situations where employees are extended beyond reasonable rest periods. Though workforce management software has great potential, companies should be aware of important cautions. To be effective, scheduling time, skills, and other data must be in the system. Companies will depend on the currency and quality of these data to fully realize the benefits of workforce management.”

“It’s very important for utilities to think strategically about the planning and scheduling of their workforce. This process is too often overlooked as a means of increasing efficiency and lowering operating costs,” said Doug Pollard, Business Unit Director at Quintiq. “Utilities need to use real-time data on employee availability, skillsets, certifications, and work packages and then use workforce management solutions to translate it into optimal schedules that drive efficiency.”
