The meeting brought together key industry players and decision makers from electric utilities and encouraged discussion and interaction on the key issues facing the electric power industry.
Josh Kmiec, manager at ScottMadden, joined John Lee, senior director at Xcel Energy, to discuss Xcel Energy’s grid modernization initiative across its operating companies. Focus topics included grid modernization trends across the United States and specific lessons learned at Xcel Energy. The presentation covered both the staging of the investments to build incremental capabilities over time and the strategy for engaging stakeholders and regulators across jurisdictions.

Utilities are receiving increased scrutiny from regulators and stakeholders regarding those investments. This makes the development of a compelling narrative and coherent supporting justification for grid modernization efforts even more important for utilities,” comments Mr. Kmiec.
