ScottMadden is known for the quality of our services and the integrity of our relationships. Our people are the foundation for this quality and integrity. The firm and our culture are based on mutual respect and trust for one another which drives client success. We recognize and value the uniqueness of each of our employees. Diversity & Inclusion
Our Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) team leverages a three-pillar framework to focus the firm’s efforts:
Our Communication, Education, and Awareness efforts focus on creating a culture of inclusion through creative events, training, and ongoing activities that increase awareness of the diversity within our firm as well as build an environment of inclusiveness.
Our Talent Attraction and Retention team engages in recruiting activities that support building a more diverse firm. We established the ScottMadden Inspire Scholarship to assist current undergraduate sophomores or above who identify as Black or African American and have a demonstrated track record of success in academics and within their communities. The scholarship offers annual awards to two students and is renewable.
Our Networking and Outreach efforts allow us to build our internal network as well as extend our diversity and inclusion exposure beyond our firm.
Corporate Responsibility
ScottMadden is committed to corporate responsibility – from our people and communities, our planet, and our governance as a firm. We are proud of what we have accomplished to date and recognize that there is still a considerable amount of work ahead.
Through years of data collection, analysis, and a drive to improve, the firm has implemented numerous initiatives, ranging from carbon footprint analysis to composting and office redesigns. However, sustainability means much more than just environmental impact. It is also about our people and the quality of our relationships – grounded in our core values of respect, trust, service, and accountability.
We partner with charities and non-profit organizations dedicated to achieving positive outcomes in our local communities. When selecting partner organizations, we focus our charitable giving around education access, poverty alleviation, veterans and their families, and local and national conservation and decarbonization efforts.

Our Work
We consult in two main areas—Energy and Corporate & Shared Services—to deliver a broad array of consulting services ranging from strategic planning through implementation across many industries, business units, and functions.
As part of our Energy practice, we have served as energy consultants for hundreds of utilities, large and small, including all of the top 20. We focus on Transmission & Distribution, Grid Edge, Generation, Energy Markets, Rates & Regulation, Enterprise Sustainability, and Corporate Services. We have helped our clients develop and implement strategies, improve critical operations, reorganize departments and entire companies, and implement a myriad of initiatives.
Our Corporate & Shared Services practice has completed thousands of projects since the early 90s, including hundreds of large, multi-year implementations. Our clients span a variety of industries from energy to healthcare to higher education to retail. Examples of our projects include service delivery strategy and business case development, corporate service assessment and improvement, shared services design, shared services implementation, and shared services improvement.
Smart. Focused. Done Right.®
Regardless of the nature of the project, we take pride in consistently delivering an exceptional consulting experience that addresses the unique challenges of each client. We achieve this by working alongside our clients through small, hands-on consulting teams, insisting on active collaboration, all to facilitate an open exchange of ideas. We hold ourselves to high standards through a belief that client success is the best measure of our own success.
ScottMadden is unique when it comes to how we focus our work. We are the perfect size firm to allow our consultants the opportunity to cross over practice areas, providing our employees with more options for valuable experience and advancement.
Common Questions
Going Beyond Project Work
There are many ways you can get involved at ScottMadden beyond day-to-day client work. These range from opportunities to build and share your expertise related to our areas of focus to connecting on other areas of interest to social events and community involvement.
Our Communities of Practice (CoPs) and Communities of Interest (CoIs) are groups within the firm that help advance the strategy for specific areas within our practice areas. CoPs were created to develop our people and support their career growth, strengthen, and organize our functional capabilities and tools we use for our projects, and clarify what ScottMadden can do for our clients and prospective clients.
Our Diversity & Inclusion Committee ensures there are intentional events and activities throughout the year to drive positive change for our communities, our clients, and each other. There are opportunities to get involved with the teams supporting the three pillars described previously.
In addition, the Annual All-Hands Meeting is a great opportunity for employees to gather in one central location for two days. Led by our Planning Committee, this meeting is designed with a set of topics and activities to foster networking and celebrate our firm and its culture. At each annual meeting, we also give back to the community in partnership with a charitable organization.

Training & Development
Our approach to development is based on the belief that we learn best by doing. Working in small teams, led by seasoned consultants on high-impact client projects, creates the best conditions for putting developmental concepts into action. Receiving support and immediate feedback from team members both accelerates development and prepares us for our next steps.
We also provide formal online and in-person courses; structured mentoring through our sponsor program; dedicated time for development outside of client work, such as for professional certifications and licenses; and opportunities to advance one’s skills and professional interests through involvement in our communities of practice.
ScottMadden Learning was launched two years ago to provide an expanded, flexible training curriculum.
