ScottMadden and SEPA Examine Texas: A Unique Electricity Market

December 17, 2015

Cristin Lyons, partner and grid transformation practice leader at ScottMadden, recently joined Bob Gibson, vice president of communication, and Tanuj Deora, executive vice president and chief strategy officer, both at Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA), to lead the webinar, “New Lessons from the Lone Star State.” The session shared key lessons learned from the recent fact-finding mission trip to Texas, provided insight into the future of renewable energy in Texas, and highlighted practical ideas for attendees to leverage in their markets.

Although the team came away with many key takeaways, below are the top three:

  • The long-term connection to the customer has allowed municipals and cooperatives to emerge as distributed energy resource innovators in Texas
  • Technical and program implementation challenges are very real, but we have the time and the smarts to figure them out
  • The combination of retail and wholesale restructuring has been unique in Texas, and the ongoing development of solar will be subject to its relative competitiveness with other resources

“I’m so glad that I had the opportunity to contribute to such an insightful group and look forward to taking part in future missions,” said Cristin Lyons, partner and grid transformation practice leader at ScottMadden. “A big thank you to our webinar panelists for their expert knowledge. It made for a great discussion.”
