ScottMadden Reviews the Economic Consequences of New Utility Models

December 2, 2015

ScottMadden, Inc., one of North America’s leading energy consulting firms, recently presented at the Public Utilities Fortnightly(PUF) Utilities in a Time of Change & Challenge event. The event focused on the most critical issues affecting the utility business.

Stuart Pearman, partner and energy practice leader at ScottMadden, served on the panel, “The Economic Consequences of New Models.” This session explored the evolution of the business model—the current business model, future potential models, risks, reactions from financial markets, and the process to get from here to there. Additional panelists included Edward Kee of Nuclear Economics Consulting Group, Swami Venkataraman of Moody’s, and Walter Howes of Verdigris Capital LLC. Ken Silverstein, Editor-in-Chief of Public Utilities Fortnightly, served as moderator.

“According to Alan Kay, the best way to predict the future is to invent it. The economic consequences of new models are path dependent. How we get there will govern the outcome we get. During the panel, we talked about the best ways to move toward constructive economic consequences as models evolve,” said Mr. Pearman.
