The Summit has established itself as the premier gathering place for the transmission industry. It once again brought policy-makers together with senior executives to discuss how to transform their companies to seize the business opportunities in a changing power industry.
Todd Williams, partner at ScottMadden presented, “The Changing Generation Landscape and Implications for Transmission.” The presentation discussed how new EPA regulations are driving the closure of numerous coal plants and the impact of tax credits on renewable generation. These changes are causing unprecedented shifts in the generation landscape. Additionally, Mr. Williams discussed the impact to the electric generation reliability picture. The changes to generation are having a significant impact on the operation of the transmission system, and will drive huge investments in transmission and other infrastructure to maintain reliability and low energy costs.
“While EPA and Congressional regulations pose a challenge for Fossil Generation, they present a corresponding opportunity for Transmission,” said Mr. Williams. “The reliability picture is changing and will continue to change. Transmission needs to stay informed, nimble and creative in response.
